Denver Metro - Operations Data System

Overview: A large metropolitan wastewater treatment agency needed to update a reporting tool they used for monitoring system performance and producing regulatory reports. The system did not analyze real-time data and required manual processes and meetings.

Outcome: Red Arrow produced a dashboard and reporting tool that provides a configurable, visual dashboard for facility operators. ODS monitors system performance in real-time, provides notifications of system performance and automates most reporting tasks.

Then: Operators had to spend a significant amount of time running reports and manually merging information. Because analysis did not happen in real-time, a significant amount of time was spent running reports, forecasting trends and trending data.

Now: ODS provides a visual dashboard and notifications in real-time for facility monitoring and adjustment. Operators can spend less time running reports and situation analysis and more time improving facility operation and operating results.

Then: Individual reports were manually combined and analyzed. Reporting process was also implemented manually. Scenario analysis was performed in Excel based on manual reports.

Now: System provides notifications when targets not reached. Regulatory and reporting workflow is automated and audited. System also provides analysis of scenarios for equipment maintenance planning and other equipment issues.

Then: Operating data was stored in flat files, analyzed in Excel and printed on paper reports. Benchmark and regulatory data was contained in manuals.

Now: Dashboard data comes from multiple source systems, gets pulled through our ETL and placed into a datawarehouse where it is presented and analyzed in real time.

Then: Flat file digital reports were brought into Excel for analysis. Reports were printed, collated and compared manually. Reporting tool built in Fortran and was very difficult to update or even modify as business needs evolved.

Now: Web-based application coded in ASP.NET MVC framework, Oracle database. Application is easy to configure, maintain and update.
